Who should be interested?
This workshop is made for those who wish to use water in a different way from the "flush n' forget" urban tradition. The ecological sanitation techniques applied bring out wastewater to the surface and turn it into a resource again using solely natural processes. These techniques can be appropriated and applied by families, homeowners, rural colectives, builders, students or anyone with the desire to do and learn. Who will guide the workshop? Piotr Jankowsky is a Chemistry Ph.D who currently makes part of Sunseed Desert Technologies in Almería. There he's in charge of the constructed wetlands sanitation system, along with other tasks realted to drinking water, solar energy, etc. Jairo Villegas is an Architecture M.Arq., specialized in sustainable architecture and water treatment. Has been in charge of designs and constructions of the Paissano project since 2012. He's also worked with development projects in Colombia related to basic habitability with displaced peasant communities in rural areas and periurban settlements. What is the objective? Paissano workshops are designed with the objective that anyone interested can design and build by themselves a sustainable water system according to their needs and capabilities. In this case, the idea is that after the workshop, those who have attended the workshop can make a basic design of a ecologic sanitation system according to their needs and resources. The strategies and techniques proposed are constructed wetlands to treat wastewater and ponds to reserve the recuperated water for landscaping enjoyment, for evapotranspiration and for its use by a designed ecosystem , among other uses in order to avoid infiltrating it to the earth. Schedule - Wednesday, March 30th Learn from nature. Visit to Rio Chico to identify the natural processes of water treatment ocurring there. (16h - 17.30h) Quantification of needs. Identification of common and particular needs to be addressed with the ecosan sytem. (17.30h - 19h) - Thursday, March 31st Design process. How to quantify and establish the variables involved in the sizing of the components of the system: pipelines, grease trap, constructed wetlands and reservoir pond. Costs calculation. Selection of materials, suppliers, locally available resources. Quantification of labour needed. - Friday, April 1st / 16h - 19h Design example. Live design of a system by the instructors. Group design of ecosan systems. Divided by groups with common needs, each group will thoroughly design a ecosan system for their need. Size and costs of each system will be studied. Saturday, April 2nd / 10h - 16h Construction of ecosan system designed in the workshop. More information and changes to the above will be added in time. |
